METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum. Next we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than necessary to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal professional.
